After a long hard day's work, coming home to a nice, hearty meal never fails to replace our sighs and frowns with a sweet smile. Perhaps topping it off with a glass of wine or an iced, cold beer would make the night perfect. Our weary selves find comfort and satisfaction in these small things that touch the heart and feed the soul. PS Underground, located in Dunhua South Road, Taipei, recreates this atmosphere to nourish you with good food and to please your ears with easy listening music.

For the whole month of April, PS Underground presents "Soul Food," a series of soulful nights to take you back to the days of Motown. Every Friday, expect a nostalgic and relaxed atmosphere through the decadent songs of great, influential artists such as Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and countless others. Contemporary singers such as Beyonce, Usher and Ne-yo, and even rap artists such as Jay-Z and Kanye West, refer to them as their musical inspirations for their genuine talent and memorable records that have been tried and tested through time. Whether you grew up listening to these artists or you simply appreciate the classics, "Soul Food" will satisfy your craving for some laidback, good time, old school style.

PS Underground is an alternative lifestyle store divided into three sections: Clothing, Dining and Music. Defying the public's common taste acquired from mainstream culture, PS Underground offers unique fashion finds, delicious dishes and indie songs and hard-to-find selections of CDs and vinyls. It is located in the basement of a building, thus isolating it from the busy shopping streets of Dong Chu.

It boasts an eclectic but trendy fashion collection that caters to a hip clientele. After doing some retail damage, hipsters can come and dine at Pasta. This cozy restaurant serves appetizers, salads and, as the name suggests, pasta. Prices range from NT120 to NT250 for a good deal of satisfying meals.

As the night hits the city, people can switch from coffee to cocktails by choosing from the list of available drinks. Upon leaving the store, it would be hard not to notice PS UNDERecords. This section offers a wide array of non-mainstream music, which is a break from the overplayed favorites on the radio. It is indeed a hidden haven for fans of trance, progressive, electronic, punk, jazz and neosoul. Its added bonus is the limited selection of vinyl records and LPs of songs from The Manhattans, The Supremes, Capone-N-Noreaga, Erykah Badu among others.

The records bring back the authentic feel of listening to music through a phonograph. Just the way past generations enjoyed them, the vinyl records deliver music with simplicity and rawness.

Come down to PS Underground at B1, #37, Lane 187, Dunhua South road (Dong Chu area) any Friday this April, between 8:00-10:30 p.m., to get yourself a hefty serving of "Soul Food". Make the most of this unique experience to cap off a long day or, better yet, to jump start a fun night out with your friends.
