Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region
Associated Press
2009-07-28 11:31 AM
Wet weather will persist over Japan on Wednesday with a slow moving low pressure system hovering over the Sea of Japan.

Flow around this system will pull warm air in from the Pacific Ocean creating scattered showers and thunderstorms over Japan. Moderate to heavy storms are anticipated in the west.

Tokyo will see scattered showers with highs in the upper 20s Celsius. This system will also push moisture over northeastern China and the Korean peninsula, kicking up cloudy skies with light rain.

Moving over the East China Sea, onshore flow from the South China Sea will persist over southeastern China. These warm and humid conditions will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms along the coast, with light rain stretching into Nanjing.

Hong Kong may see thunderstorm development with highs near 32 C, while Shanghai will see light rain and highs in the lower 30s C. High pressure in China's north will continue bringing mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 20s C.

No tropical storm development will occur in the Western Pacific or Indian Oceans. Wet weather will persist over the Pacific Islands and Indochina, however.

A strong system in the Bay of Bengal will create strong storms with heavy downpours along the coasts of Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Thailand.

In Australia, a large high pressure system will bring mild weather to the country. A low pressure system to the south will continue to trigger scattered showers over Tasmania and New Zealand. Sydney will see mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper teens C.
