Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) Typhoon Morakot, which swept through Taiwan over the weekend, had left 62 dead, 35 injured and 57 unaccounted for as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to a report from the Central Emergency Operation Center.

Three people aboard a helicopter that crashed that afternoon while on a rescue mission in Wutai township, Pingtung County, were not included on the casualty list but were instead listed on a list of ongoing rescue operations.

The wreckage of the helicopter was located on a steep mountainside some 500 meters west of an aboriginal settlement that is part of Wutai township later in the day by an airborne rescue team, which added that it was unable to reach the wreckage due to the steepness of the slope.
