Eighth-seeded Victoria Azarenka, a three-time title winner on tour this year, has lost to Francesca Schiavone in the third round of the U.S. Open.

The 26th-seeded Schiavone won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Friday for her first victory in three tries against Azarenka. Azarenka committed six double-faults, including on match point, and slammed her racket to the court after that one.

Azarenka's loss leaves no top-10 seeds to challenge No. 3 Venus Williams in her quarter of the draw.
