Kuwait: Almost 300 new swine flu cases in a week
Associated Press

Kuwait has registered 287 new swine flu cases in the last week _ a spike that raises the number of those diagnosed with the disease to 2,444 in this small Gulf country.

Kuwait has already had seven death from swine flu since the outbreak of the disease.

Health ministry spokesman Qais al-Dueiri says most of the new cases are mild and don't require hospital treatment. He says most of the cases in Kuwait have been successfully treated.

His comments were carried Thursday by the official Kuwait News Agency.

Like some Arab countries, Kuwait has postponed the start of the school year because of swine flue fears. Classes will begin September 27 for high school students, and gradually for others in subsequent weeks, to prepare for a possible new outbreak.
