Former Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has been indicted on new embezzlement charges after the court convicted him of corruption and sentenced him to life in prison earlier this month.Prosecutorial spokesman Chen Yun-nan said new charges were filed Tuesday against the former leader for allegedly embezzling $330,000 from official expense funds for his 11 overseas trips as president.
Chen Shui-bian was sentenced to life in prison on Sept. 11 after the court found him guilty of embezzling $3.15 million during his 2000-2008 presidency from a special presidential fund, receiving bribes worth at least $9 million, and laundering some of the money through Swiss bank accounts.
He has appealed the sentence.
