Authorities say two roadside bombings in and around the restive northern city of Mosul have killed an Iraqi soldier and a policeman.

A Ninevah province police official says the policeman was killed at 9 a.m. Wednesday by a bomb that exploded next to his patrol in western Mosul.

They city is about 225 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad. A second policeman was injured.

The official says a short time later a second roadside bomb targeted an army patrol about 20 miles (35 kilometers) west of the city, killing a soldier and injuring two others.

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk with the press.

Though violence has eased across Iraq overall, attacks have persisted in cities like Baghdad and Mosul.
