Argument in tense Beirut area kills 1 person

Lebanese security officials say an argument has led to a street fight in which a Christian man was killed and another wounded in a Beirut southern suburb.

The clash occurred Tuesday night in an area between the Christian neighborhood of Ein Rummaneh and predominantly Shiite Muslim area of Shiyah, said the officials on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

It was not clear if the clash was for sectarian reasons or whether it was criminal, the officials said. Sporadic clashes have occurred in the area in recent years.

Dozens of angry Christians gathered in Ein Rummaneh's streets as Lebanese troops deployed to put the situation under control, the officials said.
