After Hsiao Teng-piao joined in the race for Chiayi County Magistrate, two blue and one green candidate began vying for the position, making a comeback difficult for the Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang, KMT).

嘉義縣在蕭登標投入現場選舉後，形成二藍一綠的型態，國民?這一席縣長想要光復恐怕困難重重。

Incumbent KMT lawmaker Wong Chung-chun announced early on he was running for magistrate, so outsiders were surprised about Hsiao declaring his candidacy. Many observers assumed it was Hsiao who was crashing the party at a late stage, but this assumption would be wrong.

現任立委翁重鈞很早就宣布?選嘉義縣長，外界對最近宣布?選現場的蕭登標頗感意外，甚至有人還以為是蕭登標故意?攪局的，其實並不是這麼一回事。

Since former KMT Provincial Assembly member and legislator Chen Ming-wen jumped ship to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and was elected as county magistrate in 2001, the DPP held the majority in the county. In the 2008 presidential elections, Ma Ying-jeou received 45.6 percent in Chiayi County, against 54.4 percent for Frank Hsieh. Because Chen Ming-wen, the wife of former KMT lawmaker Tseng Chen-nung, Chang Hwa-kuan, also joined the DPP, and succeeded in winning a legislative seat twice in a row. On Chen's recommendation, the DPP nominated her as candidate for county magistrate this year.

嘉義縣自從藍軍的前省議員、立法委員陳明文帶槍投靠民進?，當選嘉義縣長後，經過八年經營，在二００八年總統大選馬英九得票率４５.６％，謝長廷得票率５４.４％顯然綠大於藍。因為陳明文的關係，前泛藍立委曾振農的?人張花冠也投入民進?陣營，並已擔任民進?兩屆立委，經陳明文的力薦張花冠代表民進??選今年縣長。

Even though the green vote was larger than the blue one in the presidential election, and despite the support of incumbent magistrate Chen, Chang was still lagging behind Wong. When the blue camp's Hsiao Teng-piao announced his candidacy, many people thought it was the DPP which had sought him out to cause trouble for Wong.

雖然在總統大選綠大於藍，又有現任縣長陳明文的加持，不過在嘉義縣縣長的選情，翁重鈞人然略?張花冠，與翁重鈞屬同一陣營的蕭登標宣佈?選縣長後，許多人還以為是民進?陣營找出?要瓜分翁重鈞的票源。
