Northern Ireland police say a suspected van bomb that threatened a border village contained no explosives _ the latest in a string of hoaxes blamed on Irish Republican Army dissidents.British Army experts on Thursday used a remote-controlled robot to explore the van abandoned on a bridge in Claudy.
Telephone warnings claimed that the van contained 600 pounds (275 kilograms) of explosives. The Police Service of Northern Ireland said Friday that army engineers had found nothing dangerous inside.
Police said they were continuing to question two suspected IRA dissidents aged 34 and 28 on suspicion of involvement in planting the fake van bomb.
Earlier this month, another phony car bomb caused major disruption to the border town of Newry.
