4.5-magnitude earthquake jolts eastern Taiwan

Taipei, Oct. 19 (CNA) An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck eastern Taiwan at 5: 05 a.m. Monday, but no immediate damage was reported.

According to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) , the epicenter of the earthquake was located 1.8 km northeast of Nanao in the northeastern county of Yilan at a depth of 43.8 km.

The temblor, with an intensity of 3 in Yilan County and Hualien County, was caused by the movement of tectonic plates and a sudden release of seismic energy, the CWB said.
