US pub owner gets 18 months in tax, weapons case
Associated Press

A Philadelphia-area builder and pub owner is heading to prison for 18 months before facing deportation to his native Ireland on immigration, tax and weapons charges.

A judge sentenced 49-year-old Sean O'Neill of Newtown Square far below the 30- to 37-month guideline range, citing letters of support and family woes.

O'Neill's teenage son fatally shot a high school friend during an unsupervised 2006 party at the family estate while his daughter awaits sentencing for a drunken-driving fatality last year.

Prosecutors say O'Neill hid ties to an Irish Republican Army-linked youth group, took part in a sham marriage, evaded taxes and owned an illegal silencer since entering the U.S. in 1983.

He must also pay about $440,000 in back taxes and fines.
