Former major league player Terrmel Sledge drove in five runs Saturday as the Nippon Ham Fighters defeated the Rakuten Eagles 9-4 in Game 5 of the Pacific League championship series to advance to the Japan Series.

Sledge singled in two runs in the seventh inning at Sapporo Dome and then put the game out of reach with a three-run homer in the eighth.

Sledge, who played for the Montreal Expos, Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres before coming to Japan, hit 27 homers and had 88 RBIs for the Fighters this season.

He hit a walk-off grand slam in the first game of the series, which the Fighters won 9-8.
