European nationalist parties form alliance

Politicians from five nationalist parties in Europe say they are forming an alliance in opposition to the European Union and globalization.

Hungary's Jobbik, France's National Front, Italy's Three-Color Flame, Sweden's National Democrats and Belgium's National Front formed the Alliance of European National Movements on Saturday and say they expect parties from Britain, Austria, Spain and Portugal to join them soon.

French National Front vice president Bruno Gollnisch says the alliance will advocate for the rights of individual countries and is important because it proves that "nationalism does not lead to war."

Far-right parties won a surprisingly large number of seats in June's European parliamentary elections.
