Kuwaiti woman denies setting fire to wedding tent

A young Kuwaiti woman has denied she set a wedding tent ablaze, killing 55 women and children who were guests at a wedding party last summer.

The blaze was the worst in the history of this small oil-rich state and shocked its public.

Nasra al-Enezi is accused of starting the Aug. 15 fire in the tent where women relatives of her husband had gathered to celebrate his marriage to a second wife.

She denied the charges of arson and premediatated murder as her trial began on Tuesday.

The frail, 23-year-old woman had difficulty walking up to the dock and was prodded several times by the judge to enter her plea.

Her responses were barely audible and her lawyer and female guards said she was just "too scared" to talk.
