The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has received a ransom demand for one of its staff members kidnapped in Sudan's western Darfur region.Red Cross spokeswoman Anna Schaaf in Geneva declined Tuesday to say how much the kidnappers asked for.
Schaaf says the neutral group "has a policy of not paying a ransom, no matter what the amount would be."
She says Red Cross representatives in Sudan have had direct contact with Frenchman Gauthier Lefevre since his Oct. 22 abduction "and he said that he was well."
Schaaf says the Red Cross has no information on the identity or motives of the kidnappers.
Darfur has seen six years of conflict between ethnic African rebels and the Arab-dominated Sudanese government in Khartoum.
