Italian state TV says Premier Silvio Berlusconi has vowed to stay in office even if convicted in upcoming fraud and corruption trials.

TV and Italian news agencies say he made the vow to an Italian journalist who is writing a book that will be co-published by one of Berlusconi's media companies.

A government spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Separate fraud and corruption trials begin in Milan in November.

Berlusconi insists he is the innocent victim of prosecutors he alleges sympathize with the opposition left.

In Italy, convictions aren't considered final until two levels of appeals trials are exhausted.
