Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region
Associated Press
2009-11-03 12:07 PM
Tropical Storm Mirinae is expected to split into two small storms on Wednesday, one moving southwest to bring showers and thunderstorms to Malaysia and the other northwestward through Thailand and into Myanmar where it will bring lighter showers.

In China, high pressure will build, allowing for sunny and mild weather. Beijing will remain cool with highs in the lower 50s F (12 C), while Shanghai will see highs in the mid-70s F (lower 20s C), both under mostly sunny skies.

Expect a few patchy clouds in Hong Kong with highs in the mid-80s F (upper 20s C).

To the east, a small but relatively weak trough of low pressure will linger over the Sea of Japan. This will allow for clouds over the Korean Peninsula, but no significant rainfall is anticipated. Northern Japan may see a few sprinkles. Seoul will see overcast skies with highs near 60 F (16 C) and Tokyo will see partly sunny skies with highs in the lower 60s F (mid-teens C).

In Australia, high pressure will build into the Great Australian Bight, while smaller troughs of low pressure will track through the country. One will approach Western Australia and produce moderately heavy showers along the coast, while a small system will kick up light coastal showers over New South Whales. Sydney will see a few scattered showers and cooler conditions with highs in the mid-60s F (mid-teensC).
