An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) successfully completed its maiden flight, which was a new milestone in Taiwan's progress in the field, academic sources said Wednesday.
學界消息來源二十一日說，一架由國立成功大學開發的無人飛機已完成其處女航，成為我國在此領域進展的新里程碑。
The unmanned aircraft, dubbed Spoonbill UAV, successfully flew 92 kilometers from Taiwan proper to the outlying island of Penghu Tuesday on what was the first flight of its kind across the Taiwan Strait.
名為「黑面琵鷺號」的無人飛機，於二十日首度完成往返臺灣─澎湖92公里航程跨海飛行壯舉。
NUKU President Michael M.C. Lai, also an Academia Sinica scholar, said that the unprecedented flight was not only an achievement for the university but was also "Taiwan's pride."
成功大學校長賴明詔院士說此一前所未見的飛行，不僅是成功大學的成就，也是「台灣的驕傲」。
"It is also an important achievement in Asia," Lai said, adding that NCKU's UAV technology is the "cream of Taiwan" and also the "best of Asia."
又說，成大無人飛機的技術是全國做得最好的，在亞洲也是數一數二的。
The NCKU research team arrived with the 30-kg aircraft early Wednesday morning at an airstrip it had constructed on a salt flat in Cigu, Tainan County to carry out the test.
成大的研究團隊二十一日一早帶著這架三十公斤的飛機抵達在台南七股鹽田建好的跑道，進行測試。
The Spoonbill UAV took off at 9: 20 a.m. under manual remote control, flying at 100 kph at an altitude of 300 meters toward Penghu's Dongji Island.
黑面琵鷺號在上午9時20分經由人工遙控起飛，前往澎湖東吉島，飛行時速一百公里，高度三百公尺。
However, at around 10 a.m., the mainframe computer began receiving information from the aircraft again and the research team piloted the aircraft by remote control to a landing at 10: 17 a.m. on Dongji islet, completing the 52-minute historic flight.
十時左右，開始從黑面琵鷺號接收訊息，研究團隊藉遙控導航，於10時17分在東吉島降落，完成52分鐘的歷史飛行。

Laboratory (RMRL) built the Spoonbill UAV in April this year after 20 years of research and development.
「成大無人飛機與微衛星實驗室」經研發二十年，在今年四月造好黑面琵鷺號。
The Spoonbill's onboard systems include wireless module for wireless data link between the aircraft and the ground control station (GCS); onboard surveillance camera that takes aerial videos/images; and video transmitter that transmit onboard video to the GCS in real time.
黑面琵鷺號無人飛機的機載系統，包括無線傳輸模組，把飛機的資料傳到地面站；機載攝影模組，進行空拍；以及影像傳輸模組，把空拍影像即時傳到地面站。
Hsiao said that 80 percent of the Spoonbill's parts and components were made in Taiwan.
蕭飛賓說，黑面琵鷺號的零件和構成組件百分之八十由我國製造。
