Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region
Associated Press
2009-11-04 11:25 AM
Remnants of Tropical Storm Mirinae will continue to produce rain over Indochina on Thursday. The system will have moved southwestward and will kick up scattered showers and thunderstorms over Malaysia.

Most of the Western Pacific will see no tropical storm development, but strong storms with heavy downpours will persist over the Philippines as a trough of lower pressure hovers over the region.

To the north, a lingering high pressure will allow for mild weather to continue. This ridge of high pressure will extend well over the East China Sea and stretch into the Sea of Japan. This will replace a small trough of low pressure that will sweep through northern China, kicking up scattered rainfall.

Tokyo will see patchy clouds with highs in the upper teens Celsius, while Seoul will remain dry and sunny with highs also in upper teens. A small trough of low pressure will develop over northern China. It is not expected to trigger any precipitation but will bring cooler temperatures to Beijing with highs anticipated in the mid-teens, as Shanghai and Hong Kong remain near 26, all under mostly sunny skies.

In Australia, high pressure passing eastward south of the continent will allow for mild weather over most of the region. However, the system will push moist conditions over New South Wales, which will trigger light rain throughout the day. Sydney will see scattered showers with highs in the upper teens.
