A British millionaire has been jailed for sending 15 amphibious personnel carriers to Sudan in breach of an official embargo.Andrew Jackson was sentenced to serve two years and eight months in prison and pay a fine at London's Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday.
The 46-year-old businessman had pleaded guilty of flouting a 2004 British ban on exporting items which could be used by the Sudanese military to wage war in Darfur.
The bloody conflict there has already claimed more than 300,000 lives. Millions more have been displaced.
Prosecutor Thomas Kark said earlier that the vehicles were apparently to be used for oil exploration in Sudan's southern marshes. But Kark noted that oil revenue has reportedly helped fund the fighting in Darfur.
