Associated Press
2009-11-05 02:19 PM
German airline Air Berlin Plc said Thursday its passenger levels fell about 1 percent in October as the economic downturn continued to curb demand for airline travel.

The Berlin-based company said it transported 2.73 million passengers for the month, compared with 2.8 million in October of 2008.

Air Berlin, Germany's second biggest airline after Deutsche Lufthansa AG, said its capacity, a measure of how full its airplanes are, was 80 percent in October, down from 81.2 percent in October 2008.

Shares of Air Berlin were nearly 3 percent higher at ⁈n morning trading.
