The Dutch government has presented a prestigious award to an Iranian lawyer for her work protecting women's rights in her country and campaigning to have stoning banned as a criminal punishment.Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen praised Shadi Sadr as "an ordinary woman who has extraordinary deeds to her credit" as he handed her the Human Rights Tulip.
Sadr has been repeatedly arrested by Iranian authorities, including following this year's pro-democracy demonstrations.
She used Monday's ceremony at the Dutch parliament to appeal for an international court for Iran to be set up to prosecute human rights abuses.
