Share prices close higher on local bourse

Taipei, Nov. 10 (CNA) Taiwan's share prices closed higher Tuesday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, gaining 56.79 points, or 0.75 percent, to close at 7,593.49.

The local bourse opened at 7,613.34 and fluctuated between 7,614.54 and 7,576.28 during the day's trading session.

A total of 3.24 billion shares changed hands on market turnover of NT$96.35 billion (US$2.98 billion).

Seven of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with construction issues moving up the most at 1.04 percent. Machinery and electronics shares advanced 0.96 percent, plastics and chemicals shares were up 0.93 percent, cement stocks rose 0.88 percent, textile stocks increased 0.51 percent, paper and pulp issues gained 0.33 percent, and foodstuff issues advanced 0.09 percent.

The other major stock category, banking and financial shares, lost ground, shedding 0.07 percent.

Gainers outnumbered losers 1,440 to 1,070, with 255 stocks remaining unchanged.

Foreign institutional investors were net buyers of NT$8.84 billion-worth of shares.
