3 suspected militants killed in southern Russia
Associated Press
2009-11-13 04:36 PM
A Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman says police have killed three suspected militants in a restive southern province near Chechnya.

Madina Khadziyeva says police manning a checkpoint stopped the suspects driving in a car and asked for their IDs.

Khadziyeva says the men responded by opening fire at police and were killed in Friday's clash in the province of Ingushetia. Ingushetia is located west of Chechnya.

Chechnya and other provinces in southern Russia have remained mired in violence stemming from wars between separatist Chechen rebels and the Russian government. There has been an upsurge of bombings and other recent attacks on police and other authorities in the region.
