The European Union says it will soon provide military instructors to train Somali forces in Uganda.EU spokeswoman Cristina Gallach says the EU defense ministers will likely approve the plan at a meeting next Tuesday.
She said Friday the EU will take charge of basic military training of up to 2,000 Somali soldiers. France, Uganda and Djibouti are currently training 4,000 others.
The EU is already involved in an anti-piracy mission off the Somali coast.
Somalia has not had an effective central government since warlords overthrew longtime dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
