A procurement mission from the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu has purchased US$4.13 billion worth of goods in Taiwan, the Taipei-based Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) said yesterday.The amount the delegation purchased was higher than expected. The value of goods purchased was previously predicted at US$3 billion.
During their stay in Taiwan over the past week, 70 Jiangsu businesses on the mission signed procurement contracts with 74 Taiwanese suppliers, according to a statement released by the CNFI.
Of the goods purchased, liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors and parts accounted for the largest share in terms of value, reaching US$1.21 billion, the CNFI said.
Coming in second were purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and styrene-based products, valued at US$1.14 billion.
Also on the shopping list were US$810 million worth of electro-mechanical products, US$590 million worth of solar cells and solar panels, US$350 million worth of computers, US$20 million worth of fruit, and US$10 million worth of other products.
Meanwhile, two Jiangsu businesses signed investment agreements during their stay in Taiwan, and more than 20 others indicated their intention to invest in Taiwan, according to the CNFI.
