Iran's parliament puts off key tax deal with Yemen

Iran's parliament has postponed a key tax deal with Yemen amid accusations from the Arabian Peninsula country that Tehran is supporting Yemen's Shiite rebels.

Iranian lawmakers on Tuesday postponed for three months their review of a taxation bill meant to boost trade between the two countries and exempt their companies from double taxation.

The postponement follows Yemen's accusations that the predominantly Shiite Iran has been sending money and weapons to Shiite rebels battling government troops in Yemen's northern Saada province.

Iran denies the charge.

The five-year rebellion in Saada flared up in August, drawing in Saudi troops along Yemen's tense border with Saudi Arabia and stoking fears of a new Mideast proxy war.
