Suspected migrant smuggler faces US extradition
Associated Press

A suspected migrant smuggler in the Bahamas has lost his fight to avoid extradition to the U.S., where he is accused of helping organize a voyage in which one man died.

The Court of Appeal ruled that Henry Pierre can be sent to Florida to face federal migrant smuggling charges. Monday's ruling upheld a lower court's decision.

U.S. authorities say Pierre and two other Bahamians were part of a ring that smuggled people from the island chain to Florida. A 38-year-old Haitian man drowned on one trip, allegedly after a smuggler pushed him overboard.

Pierre was arrested last year after he was featured on "America's Most Wanted." Lawyers for the 31-year-old argued there was not enough evidence to extradite him.
