Iraq seeks support from French firms
Associated Press
2009-11-18 05:20 PM
The Iraqi president has encouraged French companies to invest and do business in his country.

Jalal Talabani was using the third day of a state visit to France to push for greater investment in his war-battered country at a meeting with the main French employers' association, Medef.

Talabani said Wednesday that Iraq wants foreign investors to come from countries with which Iraq has good ties, and hopes French oil giant Total will work on its petroleum fields.

France wants to rebuild commercial ties with Iraq that all but collapsed after Paris' vocal opposition to the U.S.-led war to oust Saddam Hussein. Iraq is building its international ties before a pullout of American forces scheduled to end by 2011.
