UN extends EU peacekeeping force in Bosnia
Associated Press

The U.N. Security Council is extending authorization for the European Union's peacekeeping force in Bosnia for a year and welcoming the EU's increasing engagement in the Balkan nation.

A resolution adopted unanimously by the council on Wednesday emphasizes the importance of Bosnia's progress toward Euro-Atlantic integration and the country's transition to a modern and democratic European nation.

Fourteen years after a peace agreement ended the bitterly divisive 3 1/2-year war in Bosnia, the country remains ethnically divided and dysfunctional as a state.

Bosnian Serbs are seeking more autonomy for their mini-state while Bosnian Muslims and Croats want to abolish the country's division so it can progress toward EU membership.
