Active weather will persist throughout areas of northern Japan on Friday as a broad area of low pressure and an associated front move further into the North Pacific Ocean.Wrap-around flow from this system will continue to usher moisture and chilly winds into the region, creating a chance for wintry precipitation development through the morning. By the afternoon, another area of low pressure will begin to take shape in the East Sea, producing a mix of rain and snow with gusty winds over the open waters. Precipitation will begin to spread into northern Japan by late Friday evening into Saturday.
Meanwhile, a disturbance located along the eastern shoreline of China will kick up additional light to moderate rainfall near Shanghai and Hangzhou on Friday. As the day progresses, showers are expected to exit the coast and spread across the East China Sea and into Kyushu.
Elsewhere, a dominant ridge of high pressure will produce dry and clear conditions throughout the majority of northern China. Ridging will translate into moist, onshore flow across the western regions of the Korean peninsula. While, a few light showers are expected in the western portion of North Korea, fairly dry weather will develop throughout the remainder of the peninsula.
Seoul will see temperatures in the mid-0s Celsius, while Shanghai will rise into the upper 0s C. Tokyo will see temperatures in the mid-10s C.
For Australia, a passing cold front will drop temperatures and kick up showery weather from the southeastern region of the Western Territory through Victoria and southern New South Wales.
The strongest concentrations of precipitation are expected in the western areas of South Australia and in the southeastern portion of New South Wales. Dry and warm to hot weather conditions are expected elsewhere.
Melbourne will see temperatures in the mid-20s C, while Sydney will rise into the mid-30s C. Brisbane will see temperatures in the upper 20s C.
