Taipei, Nov. 19 (CNA) Changhua Magistrate Cho Po-yuan cited representatives of 100 local communities for their outstanding efforts in preventing domestic violence Nov. 13, as part of his bid to build "a society full of love and care, " a county government spokesman said Thursday. Changhua County in central Taiwan has since 2006 trained 12,037 "family guardian angels" in a program aimed at stamping out domestic violence through a diverse reporting system backed by long-term support from the law enforcement authorities and the private sector.
These "family guardian angels" are stationed at local community centers, where they play a front-line role in helping victims overcome their difficulties and build a society free from household violence, according to the official.
The county government has so far held a total of 154 promotional seminars to introduce the "family guardian angels" program to the public.
