Official: Paris mayor summoned in favoritism probe

A judicial official says the mayor of Paris has been summoned to appear before two investigating judges in an inquiry into alleged favoritism on his part.

The official says Bertrand Delanoe is to appear before the judges on Dec. 2 as part of an investigation into allegations he unjustly granted a concession for operating a Paris sports stadium used for rugby training.

The judges could file preliminary favoritism charges against Delanoe, a Socialist.

The official was speaking Thursday on condition of anonymity, in accordance with judicial policy.

Another one-time French mayor, former President Jacques Chirac, was recently ordered to stand trial in a corruption scandal dating back to his time in Paris City Hall.
