Swedish club AIK says it will play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League next season if its members and the Swedish federation approve the move.AIK, a Stockholm-based team which is currently fourth in second-tier league Allsvenskan in Sweden, said Thursday it has received an invitation from the KHL and has signed a letter of intent to join.
KHL president Alexander Medvedev said the addition of a Swedish club would boost the league's ambition of creating a pan-European competition.
AIK won seven Swedish titles between 1934 and '84 but has spent most of this decade in the second-tier league.
