An American law student says he's taking a legal case against a member of the United Arab Emirates ruling family to the European Court of Human Rights.Silvano Orsi, 40, who lives in London but is originally from Rochester, New York, alleges Sheik Falah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan whipped him in the face with a belt during a dispute at a hotel in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2003.
Al Nahyan, brother of the UAE ruler, was fined over the incident. But a Geneva appeal court quashed a conviction for inflicting bodily harm, a decision upheld in September by Switzerland's supreme court.
Orsi said Thursday that he filed papers on Monday seeking to challenge the decision at the European Court of Human Rights.
