Greece says it would not take part in talks on the future of divided Cyprus that were not part of the ongoing U.N.-backed peace process.The rejection comes after government officials in Turkey proposed "multilateral" negotiations _ that would likely include Cyprus' divided communities along with Britain, Greece and Turkey.
But the island's Greek Cypriot leadership and ally Greece say the ongoing UN-backed talks between the two communities are the only legitimate way of reaching a deal.
Greece's deputy foreign minister, Dimitris Droutsas, announced his country's position Friday.
Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded after a coup by supporters of union with Greece.
