Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker won't visit Czech Senate

A Czech Senate official says a visit by anti-Islamic Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders to the upper house of Parliament has been canceled.

Senator Jan Oberfalzer invited Wilders to talk about freedom of speech and the "Islamization of Europe" on Nov. 30, and show his film "Fitna."

The movie suggests Islam justifies violence and terror, and it has prompted angry protests.

Senate spokesman Petr Kostka said Friday the Senate media committee, which Oberfalzer chairs, failed to confirm its initial approval. The planned visit drew widespread criticism, including Oberfalzer's own party, the conservative Civic Democrats, and the left-wing Social Democrats.

Oberfalzer office was not able to say if Wilders would still come to talk at a different place.
