Peru and the Czech Republic have signed three pacts to promote investment, boost counter-narcotics cooperation and create a cultural and educational exchange program.Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus signed the pacts in Lima on Friday, marking the first time Peru has received a Czech head of state since Peru forged ties with then-Czechoslovakia in 1922.
Klaus and Peruvian President Alan Garcia said the pacts will foment closer economic and cultural ties during a joint news conference at Peru's Government Palace.
In 2008, Peru exported $16.7 million in goods to the Czech Republic, which in turn exported $15.1 million in goods to Peru. Peru received 5,000 Czech tourists in 2008, tops in South America.
