Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region
Associated Press
2009-11-21 11:41 AM
A deep low pressure trough will sweep through the Yellow Sea and over the Korean peninsula before pressing toward Japan. It will allow a low pressure system to develop in the East China Sea while moving northeastward up the east coast of Japan producing rain there and in the Shanghai region of China.

Cold air will follow the system and remain entrenched over central and northern China as well as through the Sea of Japan. This cold air will dampen daytime high temperatures throughout this area. Southeast China will not experience the extremely cold air, but mild conditions are still anticipated.

Tokyo will rise into the lower 10s Celsius, while Shanghai will see temperatures in the upper 0s C. Seoul will rise into the mid-0s C.

A strong low pressure system will sweep through southeastern Australia and into the southern Tasman Sea. This fast-moving storm will produce moderate to heavy rain mainly in the Bass Strait. Windy conditions will accompany this storm as far north as Sydney.

A cold front is expected to press through the Sydney area late Sunday or Monday. If this front speeds up, then temperatures will be much cooler on Sunday.

Sydney will rise into the mid-30s C, while Melbourne will see temperatures in the upper 10s C. Brisbane will rise into the upper 20s C.

A high pressure system will build in the western portion of the country, allowing dry conditions to dominate.
