Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region
Associated Press
2009-11-22 11:27 AM
A low pressure system will develop Monday off the east coast of Hokkaido before moving northeastward out into the Pacific Ocean. An associated cold front will provide morning showers along the east coast on Honshu.

A high pressure system will build in the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan regions behind that cold front, producing widespread dry conditions from central China through Japan in the afternoon.

Southeast China will remain dry, but Taiwan and Luzon may experience scattered showers.

Frigid air will continue to stream through northern China, the Korean peninsula, and western Japan. Southeast China will be much more mild.

Tokyo will rise into the mid-10s Celsius, while Shanghai will see temperatures in the lower 10s C. Seoul will rise into the lower 10s C.

A low pressure trough will press through the middle of Australia Monday, allowing a front to move slowly through the country's east. Rain will progress up the coast from Sydney northward, and cool air will proceed through the Bass Strait and into the Sydney area.

The area south of the Gulf of Carpentaria will experience considerable rain, while the western half of the country will remain dry and mild to warm.

Sydney will rise into the lower 20s C, while Melbourne will see temperatures in the lower 20s C. Brisbane will rise into the upper 20s C.
