From November 19 to 30, 2009, Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei will present A Feast of Taiwanese Turkey for lovers of good food during lunch and dinner at Cafe at Far Eastern. Locally farmed turkey, known to be high in nutrition and low in fat content as well as relished for its tasty and juicy meat, will be prepared in different ways on a rotation basis to whet the appetite of guests. Among dishes on the buffet, guests can enjoy Boiled Turkey Soup with Sesame Oil, Thai Style Shredded Turkey Salad, Turkey and Fusilli with Pesto Sauce, and Wok-fried Turkey in Satay Sauce. Call (02) 2376 3238 for reservations.

The Council of Agriculture under the Executive Yuan, the ROC Turkey Association and the National Animal Industry Foundation have invited Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei to help make the public more aware of turkey as a healthy food choice. Since Thanksgiving Day will fall within the period when A Feast of Taiwanese Turkey will be promoted, the ROC Turkey Association has asked the hotel to roast 30 Thanksgiving turkeys for delivery to the Child Welfare League Foundation for eventual free distribution to the society's less privileged children.

Taiwan may not be a major world turkey producer, but it has accumulated a wealth of experience in raising turkeys. Good facilities and sound management in farming turkeys have all contributed to juicy turkey meat with a springy bite. Local turkey meat is far removed from the frozen imported kind. Local poultry meat is low in fat, cholesterol and calories and high in protein. Its nutritive contents include vitamins and minerals. Local turkey, in fact, has earned recognition as a healthy white meat.

A Feast of Taiwanese Turkey will demonstrate the versatility of turkey cuisine. Guests will be able to dine on Steamed Rice with Shredded Turkey, Wok-fried Turkey in Black Bean Sauce and the Hong Kong-style Braised Turkey in a Creamy Mushroom Sauce.

Guests can also try the exotic Thai-style Shredded Turkey Salad, Smoked Turkey Pizza or Turkey and Fusilli with Pesto Sauce. Also available is Cream of Corn and Cheddar Soup with Shredded Turkey, Turkey Caesar Salad, Turkey and Jelly Fish, Turkey Breast Kebab, Braised Turkey in Indian Curry Sauce, Prosciutto Wrapped Turkey Roulade Stuffed with Mushrooms, Miniature Turkey and Vegetable Pies and Thanksgiving Turkey. The dishes will be cooked and offered on a rotation basis.
