Prosecutors say they have detained a Moscow police officer on suspicion of beating a man to death in public. The Prosecutor General's Investigative Committee says the officer beat the man on a street in southeastern Moscow late Monday after they got into an argument. Soon afterward, the victim died of his injuries at a nearby drug store.
The committee said in a statement Tuesday that two other police officers have been detained along with the suspect.
Moscow police said they fired the officers' boss over the incident.
Russian police are notoriously corrupt and widely blamed for beating and torturing suspects and other abuses.
