Scotland makes 3 changes to Wallaby-beaters

Despite beating Australia for the first time in 27 years, Scotland made three changes and a positional switch to the lineup playing Argentina in their rugby season finale this weekend.

Edinburgh flanker Alan MacDonald will make his debut, center Ben Cairns and winger Thom Evans are recalled, and Alex Grove moves to inside center.

MacDonald, Cairns and Evans were rewarded for their performances in Scotland A's win over Tonga last Friday, the day before the senior side held out the Wallabies 9-8 at Murrayfield.

Coach Andy Robinson said on Tuesday he could have retained the same XV but he wanted to give others a chance to perform.

"We do have competition for places," Robinson said. "Australia was a very physical international and that is now history. This selection is about the management of our squad and giving players that performed in the A team an opportunity to deliver a win for Scotland."

MacDonald replaces John Barclay, whom Robinson said needed a rest after his monumental defense against the Wallabies.

Robinson said he wanted to inject more pace into the backline, hence the return of Cairns and Evans for Graeme Morrison and Simon Danielli. The coach said Cairns and Evans might have started earlier this month but for injuries.

Captain Chris Cusiter was recovered from the head knock that forced him off after 20 minutes against Australia.
