The U.S. dollar fell below the Swiss franc Wednesday for only the second time ever.The dollar briefly dropped to 0.9993 francs in international trading before rising above parity again.
At 6 p.m. (1700 GMT) the U.S. currency stood at 1.0005 francs.
It fell below 1 franc for the first time on March 14, 2008.
The dollar's decline Wednesday came as the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated that interest rates will remain very low for a while yet and that it was not overly concerned by the U.S. currency's decline.
