The Organization of American States says that it has given Haiti $100,000 in aid to help recovery efforts and hopes more will be on the way.

OAS Assistant Secretary-General Albert Ramdin said Friday that the organization hoped to offer more than $1 million in additional funds in coming days. Ramdin said at a news conference that the organization was also canvassing member states to mobilize support.

He also dismissed suggestions that the country is being run by the United States amid chaos since this week's devastating earthquake.

Ramdin said that the OAS believes "there is only one government in Haiti and that is a government led by President (Rene) Preval."
