Two opposition members have regained their seats in Dominica's Parliament after winning by-elections.The island's electoral office said in a statement Saturday that both Edison James and Hector John of the United Workers Party easily won their seats against candidates from the ruling Dominica Labour Party.
The two lawmakers surrendered their seats in May because they failed to attend three sessions in a row. They had been boycotting Parliament over alleged fraud in December's general elections.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit's party won 18 of 21 seats in that vote. The by-elections took place Friday.
Opposition chief Ron Green said that the UWP's three lawmakers will likely be participating in parliamentary budget debates in coming days.
