Argentina, Brazil to start series of friendlies

Argentina and Brazil have agreed to play two friendly matches annually, using only players based in the local leagues.

Julio Grondona, the president of the Argentine Football Association, and his Brazil counterpart Ricardo Texeira made the announcement Friday in the Argentine capital. Each country will get an annual home game, although no specific details were announced about scheduling.

The annual matches between the two powers should build excitement in the buildup to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Both countries were ousted in the quarterfinals in this year's tournament in South Africa. Brazil has won the World Cup five times and Argentina has won twice.
