The LPGA Tour will come to Taiwan for the first time in 2011, giving local golf fans a rare opportunity to see the world's leading female golfers, including home favorite Tseng Yani, in person, an official announced yesterday. Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Chih-yang said the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament will take place in October 2011 at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Yangmei. "The contest will help promote Taiwan in the global sports community and provide opportunities for local residents to watch a high-level competition in person," he said.

The North America-based tour is scheduled to hold five events in Asia in 2010 (in Thailand and Singapore in February and in Malaysia, South Korea and Japan in October and November), and Taiwan's addition could make it six in 2011.
