In just over a month, Taiwan golf fans will once again be able to experience the excitement generated by the inaugural Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship. Organizers of the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 today announced the field for this year event, to be staged at Sunrise G&C from the 25th to 28th October, 2012. The top 68 players on the LPGA money list will compete for one trophy, including 8 of the top 10 players from the LPGA tour money list: defending champion Yani Tseng, Shanshan Feng, Inbee Park, Na Yeon Choi, Ai Miyazato, Jiyai Shin, So Yeon Ryu, and Azahara Munoz.

Other star players who have committed to compete for the USD2 million purse are 2010 US Open Champion Paula Creamer, as well as Michelle Wie, a two-time winner on the LPGA tour, who will be making her debut in Taiwan. The Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, the first and only golf tournament officially sanctioned by the LPGA in Taiwan, set an all-time attendance record of 67,000 visitors in 2011 – a record for any sporting event in Taiwan.

The chairman of title sponsor Sunrise Group, Tien-Ya Hsu, who is also the chairman of Taiwan's golf governing body GAROC, remarked: “As the only golf tournament sanctioned by LPGA tour, the risk and effort for preparing this tournament is inevitably high. But we try to leverage the skills of Taiwan young golf talents by creating the opportunity for them to play in the major tournament. To offer opportunities for players who could not qualify for this tournament, we decided to hold a qualifier to bring it in line with similar tournaments on the Asian swing of the LPGA tour. “ The qualifier will take place at Sunrise G&CC on 27th and 28th September. Twenty-four Taiwanese and international players will compete for four wildcard berths in the 36-hole stroke-play event.

According to the organizers, deadlines for acquiring early-bird ticket and group ticket discounts have been extended to October 22nd and October 10th respectively, so more fans can take advantage of these special rates and buying tickets for the tournament.
